Appears to only work if you're a member of the mileage plan. If you're flying Alaska otherwise, doesn't seem useful.

Terrible design, frustrating to use
Why have a “trips” tab where your upcoming flight information is, if you cannot use that area to check in to your flight and get a boarding pass. That function is buried in another, poorly labeled area. You literally have to copy paste the confirmation number from one part of the app into another in order to check in. This app was designed by idiots.

Convoluted process
Not very intuitive- for example check-in process is asking for confirmation number or frequent flyer number even though I am logged in and can see the trip. Checkin should be an easy option from the trip view page in the app instead of hidden in menu options and asking for information which app already has
