The Guardian - Live World News - Latest Quality Issues

Very sad to have to uninstall the app. 20 free articles is just too little, while the subscription options are just too expensive. Truly one of the most diverse and interesting news sources, but for now, I must consciously uncouple from the G. Cheers

Recent updates have reduced usability. Previously, well as having the main app, there was a separate puzzles app which has now been discontinued meaning you don't get the full Guardian experience online anymore.

What’s this then? Not an advert, surely
As a news source, I trust the Guardian and I enjoy the way they show me the world, for the most part. No algorithmic feed, no echo chamber, always something interesting to read. My gripe is with this app. In every story there will be at least one section, maybe more, completely irrelevant to the content, encouraging me to sign up for extra stuff or pay for this app and get even more stuff. I don't want to see it, and I don't want to go there when my finger accidentally touches something. I already pay top whack for my subscription, and I am signed in so I can read all of what's published. I am aware of the extra content and I subscribe to some but choose to avoid the rest. Why can't I just read in peace, without more “engagement”, without these stupid orange boxes in the middle of the page, interrupting the flow and my immersion in the story. You know it's me, you know what I signed up for, so respect my choices and leave me in peace.

Good journalism but …
The Guardian increasingly confuses reporting with editorial opinion. I want a newspaper to report but not to tell me what to think.

Impossible to enjoy
I bought the app years ago and it worked fine. Now somehow this no longer counts and I have to sign in and buy access, or else be restricted to 20 articles a month and still have to see all the adverts Gave up in the end and just use the web version At least I am spared the nepotism of the editors other half getting a column

Excellent newspaper, terrible app
I have subscribed to The Guardian and its app for many years. Unfortunately, the latest version of the app is terrible. Since this version of the app was released, I have tried to improve it by participating in the beta app testing and sending feedback, but all of the feedback appears to be being ignored. Under the previous versions of The Guardian app, the front page could be customised by selecting amongst the suggested front page sections, adding further topics of interest and moving each section up or down the page. All of that has been removed from the current app. Now, hiding a section hides the articles, but not the large section banner. Topics of interest are no longer on the home page but relegated to a subsequent page. The order of sections can no longer be changed. As well as the section banners for hidden sections, there are large advert-like images which appear in several places on the home page which cannot be disabled and appear even in the subscription version of the app. All of these are unnecessary and add to the visual clutter, thereby impeding the reading of any articles. This app also frequently crashes, stalls and loads articles multiple times. For the above reasons, I have cancelled my auto-renewal and started using other news apps.

Not as good as it was! really enjoyed the previous version of the app, now I often read it online rather than via the app. With the update, and a nearly£4 hike in the monthly subscription, I'm not sure if I will continue to subscribe.

Unfortunately it takes ages before the app updates its data and is available. It used to be a great app for news info.

Poor quality 😔
The app is clanky; it lags and gets stuck all the time ; the content is produced by amateurs; subscription extraction paywall is almost on all articles. That's sad, I still like to read conventional media and try to avoid social networks 😔
