Had a nice photo of about a dozen of them on a small bush and photo was declined. Not sure how your prosses of approval goes but it obviously sucks. Unintaled app. Very disappointed

SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT! I was really excited about doing this. Now, after encouraging others to do it, I am extremely frustrated. The sighting numbers are going down instead of up. They are not consistent. There is NO customer support. Don't waste your time with this app. Just go on your own cicada Safari and enjoy the wonder of the 17 year Cicada!

I think they abandoned this app. I had 6 pictures pending approval for a week that just disappeared. Not tracking sightings where I took the pics. Don't know what's going on.

I was pretty excited to see sightings popping up in my area so I went out looking. Read all the instructions about how to take photos and videos. The directions weren't super clear, but I figured it out. Rather than use my cell data to take photos in the app I took pics and then planned to upload them at home. Sadly, nothing will upload because it says there is no geotag. This was not in the instructions and there is definitely a geotag attached. So...big bummer for me.

Great idea, love the app, love citizen science but it has quirks. Many of my photos say that there is no geotag so I can't upload, but other apps find the location with the same image. Additionally, the photos that were approved, do not show on their map- kinda makes playing along a huge bummer.

Psyched for Cicadas
Along with other outlets, I credit Cicada Safari for igniting an unexpected excitement for the anticipated invasion of (of all things) bugs. The night they emerged we were borderline giddy uploading pictures and video to the app. After the waiting period I was low-key traumatized reading submissions were rejected. Are they rejected because images were poor quality, or because app was unable to collect enough data from the transmission. Or do they feel my entries are deceptive stock art? Just stating my submissions have been rejected is a bit vague, cold and disengaging. Maybe I missed something but I found no avenue to directly contact the organization with my questions. Nevertheless, I'm hoping the weather warms up again soon to allow this brood to bounce back and give me another chance with this app. Otherwise, I'll look forward to seeing these winged wonder again in 17 years.

I don't know how accurate this is because I literally posted a picture of a bunch of cicada shells that was denied and I've seen things that were questionable that got approved so I'm deleting this worthless app.

Love using this app BUT...
I'm disappointed that even pics that were approved well worth the current 48-hour window don't show up on the map. I love knowing my pics and videos will help researchers though. And I'm happy that you have so many pics that you have to limit how long they show on the map. Do you have this app for non-periodical cicadas? Because I think I've got myself a new hobby And don't want to wait 17 years for another go at it ! Good luck in your research!
